Great Minds was founded by Dr. Janet Reed, a licensed Clinical Psychologist in the State of Michigan. Her clinical training emphasized specialties in Clinical Child Psychology, Neuropsychology, and Pediatric Neuropsychology. She is certified through the oldest and most well recognized peer review Board of specialties through the American Psychological Association's American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) as a Clinical Neuropsychologist, and is a Diplomate of the prestigious American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology (AACN).

A Message from Dr. Reed

My philosophy in working with children and families is holistic, taking into account the interaction between medical, temperamental, developmental, learning, emotional, and environmental factors. My goal is to facilitate greater understanding of each patient's strengths and needs to maximize their success and provide necessary supports for optimal cognitive, social and emotional growth. While I am open to exploring the evidence for cutting edge experimental, alternative and complementary treatments, I remain committed to evidence-based interventions and treatment for cognitive, learning, emotional, and behavioral disorders.

Experience

Dr. Reed has over 20 years of experience working with children and adults of all ages, and their families. She has worked in outpatient and inpatient psychiatric, medical, and private practice settings; and served on the Faculty at the University of Missouri-Columbia Departments of Child Health, Physiatry, and the Missouri Institute of Mental Health.

She has worked with children with Serious Emotional Disturbance, neurological and medical disorders (special health care needs), developmental and autism spectrum disorders, giftedness, attention problems, and learning disorders. She completed postdoctoral fellowship specialty training in Neuropsychology, with a specialty in Pediatric Neuropsychology at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine. She also possesses a Master's degree in Health Administration (MHA) and has implemented statewide health and mental health care programs and program evaluations.

She has presented at local, state, national and international professional conferences on her research and work in parent-child relations, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, quality of medical and mental health services, and community-based integrative service delivery. Current academic positions include Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychology at Madonna University, and Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Wayne State University.  Past positions held at major institutions include Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine, and Assistant Research Professor at the Missouri Institute of Mental Health.  Dr. Reed routinely lectures to medical and neuropsychological residents on topics such as:

Dr. Reed regularly volunteers and presents at community events such as the MetroParent Autism Conference, Macomb Community Assessment and Referral; and is a Member of community advisory committees for the Developmental Disability Institute at Wayne State University; and the Macomb Coalition for Fetal Alcohol Resources Education and Support (MCFARES).

She was Principal Investigator on a nationwide, multi-site federally-funded grant to integrate primary care and early intervention services; and has consulted with State Medicaid agencies and county multi-agency collaboratives to provide integrated health, mental health, and social service care to children and families with special health care and mental health needs. She established an External Quality Review Organization and managed multi-site health quality and compliance evaluations for Medicaid Managed Care. 

Memberships include the Michigan Psychological Association, American Psychological Association, American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology; and she has served on a number of committees.
